It’s the second week of class and we’re already behind. In philosophy of mind tomorrow, we’ll continue with dualism. So, no new reading for tomorrow.
In intro to philosophy yesterday, we looked at the following argument and concluded (or at least I just asserted) that it was invalid: All colas are soft drinks. All colas are beverages. So, all soft drinks are beverages.
We didn’t come up with a counter-example quickly enough. Can you think of one? Click the “continue reading” link to see one.
All dogs are animals. All dogs are mammals. Therefore, all animals are mammals. The premises are true, but the conclusion is false. Some animals are reptiles, amphibians, and so on. So, the original argument is invalid.
